Nikon D90: Buy It for Me Please

The above video was shot with the newly released Nikon D90. The Nikon D90 is a D-SLR camera. That shoots video. 720p HD video. And because it is still a D-SLR at heart, the ability to switch lenses (eg. telephoto, fisheye, macro) and the high performance in darker situations actually gives the D90 an edge over most camcorders. See for yourself here: D-Movie sample clips.

However, while my D70s weeps for its inferiority, the revolutionary D90 is only a scratch in the surface for the future of high performance cameras and camcorders. RED CEO Jim Jannard is already rabble-rousing about its plans in the future in this space.

Monocle

Do you like international news? Do you like design? Culture? Being cosmopolitan and wealthy? If so, you should read Monocle. With tons (~150,000) of people shelling out for a magazine that grabs an Apple-worthy 50 percent markup, it has to be a great read. Founded by Tyler Brule, an impressively decorated magazine publisher, Monocle should(n’t?) be on your reading list.

The YouTube Screening Room

YouTube is filled with sneezing pandas and dramatic everythings – not exactly high quality stuff. However, with the YouTube Screening Room, the site has finally taken the initiative to showcase quality content from award-winning filmmakers around the world. Not quite sure why YouTube hasn’t been upfront about these featured videos (try to find them on the home page), but I am pleased that they have been given a home.

Oktapodi

Oktapodi is a very creative/cute short produced by a team in France that was just named best of show at Siggraphs’ Computer Animation Festival. The short also won the audience prize and is quite decorated at other film festivals.
